Lake District Trip 2017

After a very successful trip in 2016, we’re running another trip this September – 1st-5th.

Here’s the itinerary

Friday 1st September

Leaving Swindon Friday Morning 9am, we should arrive at our accommodation at New Ing Lodge around 2pm.

For more info on the New Ing Lodge visit:  http://newinglodge.co.uk/

Accommodation: 2 x 4 person dorm rooms – there is an upgrade option to a family room  for 3 if more than 8  subscribe.  Maximum number for accommodation will be 11.

Breakfast, packed lunch and evening meals provided – please advise of special dietary needs.

After settling in at the Bunkhouse we will be met by Charly Oldrid who will be our host and guide for the duration of our stay.  Late afternoon Charly will be leading us on a steady natural and skills ride lasting between 2 to 4 hours locally around the Shap area to stretch our legs and ease us into the weekend Lakeland xc. On our return we will settle in with a bite to eat and a few beers before retiring in readiness for a full weekend of riding.

Saturday 2nd Sept – A day crossing the Far Eastern Fells descending into Kentmere

Note: Map is not the actual route but an indication of the general area we will be riding in. This is a high level route so may be changed in adverse weather conditions.

This is a full day’s high level ride, arriving in Staveley for a night of Tipi Glamping, barbeque and beers.

Our bags will be shipped from Shap to Staveley waiting on our arrival.

Sunday 3rd Sept – The return to Shap

Classic Lakeland low level route, rocks, drops, climbs and descents, and if in luck we may just pass a hostelry for some liquid refreshments en-route.

Note: Not actual route, but region indicative. The high level route and low level route days may be switched weather dependent.

Fully days ride arriving back at Shap for the evening meal and a beer or two. Other tipples may be available.

Monday 4rd Sept – We choose day

Charly will lead us for a day of riding of our choice. High level, low level. Lakeside, whatever takes our fancy. Load up the bikes and drive into the heart of the Lakes for more epic xc riding.

Tuesday 5th Sept – Homeward bound albeit a small diversion to Whinlatter

After 3 days in the saddle on what at times will be challenging terrain what better way to demonstrate your newly honed mountain skills and wind down before the long journey home.

Breakfast at New Ing Lodge before depart at 9am to arrive at Whinlatter around about 10am to warm up on the Quercus Blue trail before tackling Altura Red North. Lunching in Siskins café before taking on Altura Red South.
