What you never knew about Mitchell Cycles

If you’re a long term Swindon resident you’ll probably have heard of multi generational family bike shop Mitchell Cycles. You may even have been to their shop by the stadium in town. Still family run, the outside of the shop shows a plethora of bikes for all ages of the family.

What you might not have known about though, is the Shangri-La of some of the best mountain bikes and kit that’s tucked away upstairs. It seems to be a best kept secret, but I popped in today and there was so much great stuff (especially the new gear), that I need to share!

First place you want to go is up the stairs to the mountain bike room. This is the good stuff, ranging right up to the amazing stuff! A great selection of brands: Kona, Rocky Mountain, Merida, Mondraker have also been joined by Nukeproof this year. There’s a cracking selection of hardtails and full suspension bikes, right up to stuff I can only dream of affording!

It’s not just what’s in the room either, as Mitchell’s have a warehouse down the road, so if you don’t see what you’re interested in, just ask. They can even get in brands beyond what you see, so again, don’t be afraid to ask (ask you ask nicely enough that list might include Orange).

In the room next door there’s a fine selection of clothing for men and women (Altura, Kona & 661), as well as helmets and other protection.

Troy Lee Designs are another new brand to Mitchell’s, but they’ve got the protection pads in stock (the Speed pads look ace!), as well as the A1 Drone helmet. They also just had a fresh delivery of Bell helmets, including the Super 2R MIPS and Transfer-9.

So that’s the upstairs, but I’ll confess today was the first time I’d noticed the full wall of Shimano shoes. There’s also the cabinet of Hope kit, Renthal bars and some seriously expensive Enve carbon kit. I got shown not only the lightest wheel I’ve ever come across, but definitely the priciest! IMG_0097

So don’t let the family shop tag fool you – there’s a ton of seriously trick mountain bike kit at Mitchells that you need to check out.

And best of all, Swindon MTB Enthusiasts members get 15% off when they show their membership card, so if you haven’t got one, get one here. Membership is still just £5 for a year (and we’ve a big announcement very soon on a new club benefit too).
